Pramod Kumar Nayak

Pramod Kumar Nayak is a digital entrepreneur based in Chhatia, Jajpur district, Odisha, India. He has run a Common Service Centre (CSC) / Digital Seva counter since 2018, builds AI and WhatsApp automation systems for small Indian businesses, is the founder of the Business Automation Sathi software, and teaches government digital services in the Odia language through his Odia Digital Seva YouTube channel, which has more than 30,000 subscribers.

How this started

It began at a counter in a small town in 2018. People walked in with a ration card problem, a certificate they could not get, a pension that had stopped. Most of them had a smartphone in their pocket and no idea that the thing they were queuing for could be done on it.

So he started recording. Not polished videos — just the actual screen, the actual form, the actual steps, explained in Odia the way he explained them across the counter. One of those recordings, a guide to the ration card approval process in Odisha, has now been watched more than 1.4 million times. Another, on the E-Shram card, crossed 330,000.

The channel grew past 30,000 subscribers and 240 videos. And the same pattern kept repeating: the problem was never that people lacked ability. It was that nobody had shown them the steps in their own language.

From teaching to building

Running a counter teaches you where the real friction is. Small shops in India keep their entire business in a paper register — who came, what they owe, what was promised, what is pending. When the register is lost, the business is lost with it.

That is why he built Business Automation Sathi: software that puts jobs, cash, udhaar, invoices, customers, WhatsApp messages and an AI assistant in one place, on a phone, in Hindi, Odia or English — for people who have never used business software before. It launched recently and 62 businesses are trialling it.

Why it is all in Odia

There is no shortage of technology content in India. There is a shortage of it in the language people actually think in. A young person in a village in Jajpur does not need a better laptop or a bigger city — they need the steps, in Odia, from someone who has done the work themselves.

That is the whole idea behind Odia Digital Seva and the courses that came out of it: that a person with a phone and an internet connection in rural Odisha can start earning from digital services, and does not need to leave home to do it.
